GAMBLE, Robert Dill

Robert, a thirty five year old Farmer at Inglewood, Queensland, enlisted at Inverell in 1915. He was born in the Inverell District, the fourth son of Alexander and Fanny Gramble who lived near Graman. Robert was one of thirty two volunteers who were presented with the Inverell Medal at a public gathering at the Tattersalls Hotel in August 1915.

He became a member of the 12th Light Horse Regiment, 10 Reinforcement, which sailed from Sydney for Egypt on RMS Mongolia in July 1916. He was transferred to the Camel Corps in September 1916. During his time in Egypt, he had several bouts of illness requiring hospital treatment.

Robert returned to Australia in 1919 and medically discharged. His name is recorded on the Inverell and Graman Honor Rolls.
